SARAH Please!

LORD AIDAN {voice over} But not yet.

SARAH What? Not yet? When? Please, Lord Aidan.

LORD AIDAN {voice over} I said, not yet. Be patient, Sarah.

SARAH {agitated} This is why we’re not allowed to leave the island, isn’t it?

LORD AIDAN {voice over} Sarah…

SARAH {agitated} And why we’re not allowed flying machines…

LORD AIDAN {voice over} Sarah, be patient…

SARAH And this is what the microchip is for. I bet it’s something to do with finding out. Why am I the only person ever to have a microchip in my brain? What’s it for, Lord Aidan? I want to know!

LORD AIDAN {voice over} You really are a difficult girl, you know. You, of all the people who have ever lived on this island, are the one who has been chosen, by me, to find out. You will find out about the sun, and about the microchip, and why everyone must stay on the island, and a lot of other things that you cannot even begin to imagine, and that is why you must wait. You will find out the answers to all your questions at the proper time ? and when you do, you will need me to help you understand them. I will be here, Sarah. I will be here.

SARAH {wondering} Who are you…?

LORD AIDAN {voice over} Be patient, Sarah. Remember everything I’ve said.

SARAH Who are you? What are you?

The shaft of light switches off abruptly.

SARAH What – are – you?

Music 8. SARAH stands in the centre of the cross gobo as the benches are cleared under blue light via the LEFT and RIGHT entrances. The lights fade to black.
